Cathy was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman where she met and later married her husband of 56 years, Elwood.

After graduation, they settled in Oklahoma City. There, Cathy worked as a speech pathologist for the OKC school system while Elwood finished medical school.

Cathy and Elwood raised three children, taught Bible classes and participated in many church and community activvities during their years together in OKC.

Along with teaching women’s Bible studies and Sunday classes for over 50 years, Cathy also traveled and spoke for the Home Mission Board in the 1970s. She still enjoys speaking to groups and recently traveled to Kenya to speak at a women’s conference there. Both of her daughters Cindy and Susan accompanied her on the trip.

She is a happy and loving octogenarian and still resides in Oklahoma City.

Daughter Susan Herndon Ray helped with the book's writing and says that working on the book with her mom was one of the highlights of her life.

Susan graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in agriculture. She and her husband Sam currently ranch in New Mexico. Susan also enjoys facilitating ladies' Bible studies, speaking and writing.   Susan has been severely visually impaired since her early 20s.
